Minyan Midbar מנין מדבר

A new participatory traditional egalitarian Shabbat morning prayer community.

Rabbi Dov Gartenberg, Rabbi Jack Schlachter, and Andrew Grossman are part of the team of initiators for this traditional egalitarian community—a space that maintains the structure of traditional Jewish liturgy while ensuring full, equal participation for people of all genders. Inspired by the teachings of Abraham Joshua Heschel, we envision a prayer experience that is deeply rooted, song-filled, and highly participatory.

Spiritual & Liturgical Vision

  • Inspired Prayer: A traditional yet modern Shabbat morning experience.
  • Unique Format: Join us for a Kiddush brunch and learn at 10:15 AM, nestled between the morning and Torah services.
  • Flexible Attendance: Feel free to drop in at any time.

Inclusion & Hospitality

  • A Wide Welcome: A home for Jews of all backgrounds, Jewish-adjacent individuals, and those exploring Judaism.
  • Radical Hospitality: We prioritize Shabbat home and meal hospitality, especially for those visiting from out of town.
  • Intergenerational: Family-friendly from day one, actively encouraging the participation of children and teens.

Learning & Participation

  • Excellence through Involvement: Every voice is welcomed. We invite you to learn a new skill or share a treasured one with the community.
  • Profound Torah Study: Accessible, stimulating, and open Jewish learning is integral to our identity.
  • Meaningful Connection: A space to grow spiritually while forming deep, lasting friendships.
