Rabbi Gartenberg is deeply committed to adult Jewish learning and the belief that every community should offer accessible, high-quality courses on the breadth of Jewish life, history, and spirituality. Having become a rabbi to share the power of Jewish study, he has dedicated his career to guiding Jews of all backgrounds, with a special focus on those rediscovering their heritage or choosing Judaism for the first time.
This dedication is fueled by his own passion for ongoing study; he remains a constant student, regularly engaging in advanced research at institutions like the Hartman and Hadar Institutes and maintaining a dedicated "havruta"—the traditional Jewish practice of studying Torah and sacred texts in partnership with a fellow learner.
Exploring the Jewish Experience (EJE)
The Exploring the Jewish Experience Course is a holistic year-long program exploring Judaism through its history, religious ideas, culture, and practices. More than a simplistic introduction, this course offers depth and insight into one of the oldest and most enduring traditions in our world.
- Open to all — Jewish, non-Jewish, intercultural couples, and anyone curious about Judaism
- Taught by New Mexican Rabbis and Jewish educators with a pluralistic approach honoring diverse Jewish expressions
- Explores contemporary questions such as the relationship between Israel and the Diaspora, the history and impact of Anti-Semitism, and the emergence of Anti-Zionism
- Honors diversity — from religious to secular, Sephardic and Ashkenazic traditions, and the movements within the Jewish world
- Interactive online format designed to promote discussion during sessions
